This is a new initiative of the William Kennedy Piping Festival and seeks to build on the ongoing work by the club in recent years to promote stronger links between the worlds of Scottish & Irish Gaelic. The Willliam Kennedy Piping Festival brings together pipers plus singers and speakers of the two indigenous languages and this project offers an opportunity of enhancing participants' knowledge of the two closely related art forms through a multi-disciplinary day-long workshop.
Whether you've a smattering of the language or none at all, these classes are designed to develop that and give you some key phrases and a good understanding of the differences and similarities between Irish Gaeilge and Scots Gàidhlig. We've scheduled the classes so that you can mix and match, attending a class in each language to suit your level.
The Irish Scottish concert that follows highlights the beautiful music produced by our two countries, starring singers Griogair Labhraidh & Anna Murray from the Gàidhlig song tradition and Síle Denvir and Lorcán Mac Mathúna from the Irish song tradition. Piping from Maitiú Ó Casaide (uilleann pipes) and Griogair Labhraidh (Scottish pipes) will complement the singing.
Afterwards the performing artists will share a sprinkling of their expertise with you in the Irish and Gàidhlig language singing workshops.
