Patrick Molard, born in St Malo, Brittany, launched his piping career as a boy with his local pipe band 'Bagad Quic en Groigne' and later with 'An Ere Bagad' from Rennes. His first pipe master was Jakez Pincet, who enabled him to go on and study with two of the great Scottish pipers - Robert Brown and Robert Nicol. It was from them that he learnt the art of piobaireachd in all its complexities. It was with these foundations that, after his return to Brittany, he took up the Breton biniou and the bombard and began a deep exploration of traditional Breton music.
In the early 1980s, Patrick won the prestigious Macallan trophy at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient three years in a row. He has gone on to perform and record with some of the biggest names in Breton music including Alan Stivell, Dan Ar Braz, Jacques Pellen, Pennou Skoulm and Gwerz.
